Nathaniel Aaron Mitchem, was born in North Carolina on September 26, 1841 and died February 8, 1910 in Caldwell County, NC. The Civil War veteran is buried at Sardis Cemetery in Hudson, North Carolina. His first wife was Rebecca Bumgarner, (1845-1883), who is buried at Pinecrest Cemetery in Granite Falls, NC. She was the daughter of Thomas Bumgarner, (1810-1890) who was born in Lincoln County, NC, and Regina Bolick Bumgarner, (1810-1879), buried at Pinecrest. His second wife was Julia Harris, (1848-1928) who is buried at Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Hudson, North Carolina . She was she was the daughter of Bazeleel Harris and Ann Red who migrated to Caldwell County from Granville County sometime after the 1850 census.
Nathaniel Aaron Mitchem's parents were Banks Mitchem, (born about 1807 in Lincoln County) and Susannah Wise Mitchem, (1812-1885).
Banks Mitchem was the son of Nathaniel Mitchum, who was born in 1780, in either Virginia or North Carolina. He died in Lincoln County, NC in 1838 and is buried at Macedonia Methodist Church cemetery in Vale, NC. He was married to Jemima Reynolds, who was born about 1784 and died after the 1860 census. They had 13 children.
